Our Vision
In 2009, TellMyRoute.com was conceived with a vision to promote sustainable mobility and green initiatives. Our mission is to transform public transport across India (and beyond) by putting reliable journey information directly into the hands of commuters.

- Timetable and frequency information (where GTFS or schedule data is available).
- Nearby stops and locations to quickly find the closest boarding point.

- Personalised experience with favourites, search history, and frequently used routes (where supported by the app).
Today, TellMyRoute.com covers several major Indian cities—including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Madurai, and Coimbatore—with more cities being added over time as quality data becomes available.
How TellMyRoute Works
Behind the scenes, TellMyRoute combines transit schedules, stop locations, and geographic data into a single journey-planning experience:
- Transit Data: We ingest GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) feeds and other schedule sources published by public transport agencies and open data portals.
- Routing Engine: For selected cities, we use the MOTIS platform to compute fast, multi-modal routes and options between your origin and destination.
- Maps & Visualisation: Basemaps and geospatial context are provided using modern mapping platforms (such as OpenStreetMap-powered tiles and related mapping services).
- Web & App Experience: Our custom-built web and mobile UI is crafted to be simple, fast, and friendly on both desktop and mobile devices.
The result is a single place where you can explore routes, compare options, and make informed decisions before you start your journey.

TellMyRoute.com is made possible thanks to open standards, open data, and open-source technologies. We gratefully acknowledge the following:
GTFS & Transit Data
For many of the cities we support, TellMyRoute.com uses GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) data published by public transport operators, government open data portals, and other authorised providers. GTFS is an open standard for representing public transport schedules and associated geographic information.
- GTFS feeds are owned and maintained by the respective agencies or data providers.
- We regularly import and refresh GTFS data so that route and timetable information remains as current as possible.
- In some cities where GTFS is not yet available, we may use alternative schedule sources or partial datasets.
All transit data is used under the terms and licences defined by the original providers, and we fully respect their ownership and attribution requirements.
MOTIS Routing Platform
For selected GTFS-enabled cities, TellMyRoute.com leverages the open-source MOTIS (Modern Transport Information System) platform . MOTIS is a powerful, multimodal journey-planning and routing engine designed for high-performance computations over large-scale transport networks.
- We use MOTIS to build journey plans based on GTFS data and other network information.
- MOTIS helps us support advanced routing use-cases and multi-leg journeys.
We thank the MOTIS open-source community for making this technology available to the wider transit ecosystem.
Mapping & Other Technologies
TellMyRoute also relies on modern mapping and cloud technologies, including:
- Map data and tiles from open and commercial mapping providers (for example, data based on OpenStreetMap contributors and map-tile platforms).
- Cloud infrastructure and developer tools (including participation in the Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub programme, which has supported our early-stage growth).
- Secure APIs, scalable backend services, and containerised deployments to keep the platform reliable and responsive.
Data Accuracy & Disclaimer
While we strive to keep all information accurate and up to date, public transport operations can change at short notice due to traffic, operational issues, or service disruptions.
- Schedules and routes are based on data provided by agencies and may not always reflect last-minute changes.
- Real-time status or live tracking is only available in cities where such data is published.
- We recommend confirming critical journeys with the official operator’s website or customer care where possible.
